Foster Parent Initiation--Part 2

Big news. We have another baby!! But don't freak out on me yet. This one is for sure NOT a keeper. He could go anywhere between next week and 2 months from now. His mother already has 2 kids in CPS custody since October and she has been working her plan well. So in a couple of months he and his sisters will go home. He may go to her cousin sooner if her cousin can be found first of all (the house was vacant when CPS went there today) and also pass a home study.

Now for the shocking part of our story (hence the Initiation --Part 2 part of my title). We were called about this newborn, Caucasian male who was born on Monday. Of course we said yes, we were selected and then made arrangements to pick him up at Parkland Hospital. When we walked into the nursery the CPS worker pointed to his crib and I was instantly confused. The boy she pointed to was African American. I said, "this one?!?" And she confirmed that she knew what she was talking about. Waylan and I exchanged looks but kept our mouth shut. Our agency caseworker said, "that is a lot of curly hair, is he biracial?" The CPS worker answered no and obviously had no clue that we were there to pick up what we thought was a white boy.
We are cool with it even though our plan is to adopt a Caucasian. He needs a home right now and we will be here to care for him and love him until he leaves. Justine has already verbalized that she loves him. She did awesome at our 3 hour stay at the hospital (during dinner time!). She even asked us at one point where HER baby was because we weren't getting quick enough to satisfy her I guess.
His name is Amejia, he was born July 1 and weighed 7 pounds 8.9 ounces. He is 19 inches long. Here are some pics.

Justine looks so cute holding babies! And he looks much older than 2 days old.

He is BEAUTIFUL! Justine looks such a big girl. Are you sure she is not 8 or 9? You handled a precarious situation with grace. I applaud you!

Wow, he looks like he weighs over 8pounds! I'm so glad you are going in to this knowing he will go back to his birth mom, I imagine that is a little easier than what happened last time.

In the mean time, this gives you a little bundle of joy to fill your arms while you are waiting for the one that will be staying with you permanently.

What a lucky boy to have a special family like yours to love him while no one else can!
